Stinger is a utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.
Alternatively, McAfee Stinger Portable is also available.

Thanks & Fixed :)
The 6 year old screen dump negligently linked above
shows 'Ready to scan for 54 viruses'.
Stinger currently scans for 2,239 viruses and is very useful

Agreed! Many of the screenshots do a tremendous disservice to the applications.
A picture is worth a thousand words.

Hello, I do not know where to write I'll write here. I signed up for the RCC to your site, and the text is displayed kanji help please, visit the e-mail
V10.1.0.1475
Reducing a long story to a comment : Stinger reported to me a program many of us have:
C:\Program Files\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe is infected with the FakeAlert!fakealert-REP virus !!!
But I know that rpcapd.exe is OK as the hashes verify back to the Authors website
The rpcapd.exe has no ADS.
Surprise ! When I renamed rpcapd.exe to Xrpcapd.exe the Stinger scan is clean.
Rename it back and Stinger detects 'FakeAlert!fakealert-REP virus' again
This virus is very cunning or stinger is ...
I used to think this was good software just poorly served vis:
Web pages differ from GUI, undocumented ambiguous fields and checkboxes,
catastrophically dangerous default action setting, version number issues etc
This has wasted a lot of time just when I have real system problems to fix,
hopefully my experience will help other.

What's up with the recent flood of (almost daily) updates? Odd... me don't like. Bye Stinger.
V10.2.0.146
aren't daily updates not a good sign for a virus scanner? i think so. but you are Baas!
V10.2.0.179
According to last AVTest, perhaps, it's better to use something else like ( f.e.) gmer, rootrepeal, VBA32arkit, RootkitUnhookerLE.
V10.2.0.199
I use Microsoft Security Essentials and ever since I've used it, I've been virus and malware free. So, the question is, since Microsoft Security Essentials is free, why would people still try and experiment with questionable software?
V10.2.0.390
Loner: Thanks for your feedback, and although I wouldn't describe McAfee as the best available, I definitely wouldn't describe it as "questionable". Microsoft -- although its improved quite a bit -- does not have a great reputation for security.
V10.2.0.390
Update the stealth Information to better reflect what it does
