Some antiviruses call this a virus because it't often used for hacking keys and may avs don't like that especially AVG. I switched to Avira because of that.

Prefer ProduKey (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=544, which will allow users to change sources to a drive from a computer that crashed, or other Windows install. Although the product description says Magical will do this, my WinXP system wouldn't allow it.

The "Options" and "Load Hive" menu options don't appear to work.

The Magical program says it will change your Windows registration name, though I'm not sure why you'd want to do that. To change your windows password try "RockXP4" (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=462) even though its buggy.

Most keyfinders use hooks that give false postives in AV software. Just add this prog to the exclusion list.

It's open source; you can scrutinize the code and decide for yourself if it's malicious. It appears to be nothing more than a utility to extract product keys; this means it is a security risk to some degree and can be misused, but the program itself is on the level.

Norton often sees these sorts of programs as "hackware", as in things used to do illegal stuff. Its frustrating, I can't use Cain and Able on this computer. To run it you might need to disable Norton.

used it for years, no virus, typical anti virus false alarm

on further examination, it seems to be a self extracting Rar file. are the following files

chgxp.vbs
findkey.exe
officekey.exe
xpkey.exe

I believe that the find key program runs the xpkey.exe program in background, it the puts to a txt file the product code. the main program then looks for this txt file to report the poduct key in it's main window.

Maybe officekey.exe was mean't to do the same thing. but seeing as my anti-virus zaps it everytime, it's hard to say.

the vbs script is a script to change the product key and again i suspect used by the findkey program to do that.

this maybe a false positive, but better to be safe than sorry.

My Antivirus saw this as a virus. the program seem to tried to extract a file call officekey.exe and this program was detected by Norman antivirus as W32/PWCrack.A

the Program ran, but whatever this other program it had hidden inside was, my antivirus stomped on it soon as it was extracted in the background.
