Baby FTP Server is a basic FTP server that allows only anonymous access. It supports most RFC959 FTP commands, as well as PASV and non-PASV mode. You can configure the home directory and set permissions for download/upload/rename/delete/create directory.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Windows registry. But given the nature of the application and the small number of options that it exposes, I am accepting it as portable.
Unicode support: No
License: Freeware/Open Source
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch babyftp.exe.

Although a great program to transfer a few files over the network, this program failed when transferring very large (over a gig) files over a network. I recommend instead Filezilla Server included in XAMPP (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1069.

Positives: Simple and easy way to transfer files fast between machines. I was able to connect two computers that wouldn't show up under Network Neighborhood. Also, FTP generally transfers files faster than regular Windows networking.

Negatives: the program didn't seem to like files with odd characters or long filenames. ONLY allows anonymous login so not flexible for more than a few users or one-way transfers.

Alternatives: I also recommend HFS (http://portablefreeware.com/?id=602, as great Web server program (but lacks in ability to upload). Filezilla Server (filezilla.sf.net) is much more indepth and powerful but not portable.
