Synopsis: Copy Handler is a better tool for copying/moving files and folders. It performs 6-7 times faster than the standard Windows operation. It also provides full control over the process (pause, resume, restart etc). Tasks are added to a queue and you can limit the maximum number of active tasks at any one time. If you copy/move large files frequently, or you need to do so over an unreliable connection (eg. wireless network), you should be using this tool instead of the standard Windows copy/move.
Writes settings to: [C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local settings\Application data\Copy Handler]
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch ch.exe.
Stealth [?]: No
Unicode support: No
License: GPL
System Requirements: Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP

[Anonymous] PJHm, don't quite like the way it defaults to setting itself up to auto run when windows starts (remember to head to options straighta way and remove that) [2006-04-15 06:39]

[Anonymous] linuxampAnyone recommend a good explorer copy/move replacement? I've been using supercopier for a while. The features are great but once in a while it damaged files and I was unable to recover them. This program looks promising but the FAQ is really scary.

I can't trust my data to a program who's faq includes:
"Program deleted all files...Yup. That happens in this program now"

[Anonymous] MozkillI get 3-5MB/s from this app. I can get a consistent 4.5-6MB/s from using Filezilla Client&Server and so I prefer to use FTP. [2007-12-09 17:56]

[Anonymous] nicedreamsTeracopy is the best. You might be able to make it portable by copying the files to a thumb drive, but integration is best for this type of thing IMO. [2008-02-15 13:59]

[Anonymous] AshghostLinuxamp's comment above might scare you, but the faq was (too flippantly) describing the following behavior: if you set Copy Handler to skip existing files during a move operation, they still get deleted from the source directory. If you move files, they always get deleted from the source directory, so this isn't quite a bug, perhaps just a lacking feature. [2008-03-15 08:37]

[Anonymous] Onesimus PrimeUnless I missed something in the settings, 1.28 seems to be the last portable version. Post- 1.28, CH wants to write to the computer's Application Data folder. [2008-11-19 20:51]

[User] donaldPlease be aware the current version is 1.32 [2010-06-11 16:41]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
