so think what happens if you "split up" a 25pages, 2MB file? You'll get 25 files of 2MB with one page, each.
My two-page pdf test file (399 KB) was split into two files, respectively 307 and 194 KB large.
I recommend PDFTK Builder Portable, which can modify, split and watermark pdfs:

Seems working for me:
5 pages doc = 320ko
page 1 = 95ko
page 2 = 65ko
p 3 = 102ko
p 4 = 44ko
p 5 = 91ko

I tried a previous version - and obviously it only HIDES all the other unselected pages; file size after was almost exactly the same. Rate yourself ..
