Blank And Secure is a basic tool for permanently deleting files from your hard drive by overwriting them, making it impossible for most recovery tools to return deleted files to a readable format. Includes drag-and-drop capability and free space overwrite for if you accidentally just delete a sensitive file without overwriting.

If it uses the Gutmann method (35 pass overwrite) then not even the NSA can get it back. DP Shredder (also on this site) has that option.
Wiping your drive is good but you do NOT need to overwrite something 35x. This is a waste of time and electricity and will shorten the life of your drive. Do your research.
Any file and folder wiper without shell integration (e.g. right click menu) is virtually worthless, IMHO. There are far too many other ones out there that 'do it all.'
V2.41
shodan816: shell integration is great but requires registry writes, sometimes prevented by security settings. Additionally, some users prefer "stealth" software that doesn't modify system settings.
V2.41
webfork, Yes, shell integration requires a registry write. However, such apps can still be made to be truly portable by temporarily writing to the registry upon execution and deleting the entry upon closing. Portable Process Explorer by John Hallas is a perfect example. There are more.
V3.03
The lack of shell support has a simple workaround: Simply copy the Blank and Secure shortcut to the SendTo menu. On my Windows 7 system, the location is:
\Users\(me)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
In fact, any application to which you can drag files can be handled this way.
Select your files, then call up Blank and Secure and it will list them ready for secure deletion.
It's a tiny utility, but seems to work very well.
V3.03
I've removed this from my TPFC favorites as I've found that Blank and Secure is a little unstable when deleting a ton of files, at least on my Win8 system. I've had to restart my computer numerous times because of hangups.
I'm using CyberShredder now, even though it does not have a x64 version, deletion feels faster.
v3.67
Seems to work - at least the file vanished. I loved that little caveat about "makes it impossible for MOST data recovery tools to return deleted files to a readable format." I guess if the NSA wants to see what you deleted, all bets are off.
