[User] CornflowerI feel this may qualify as an exception to the Command Line exclusion rule of TPFC, because it itself is a portable Windows app, which wraps other apps (Windows or console, with or without parameters) into a wrapper. I hope folks find it as useful as I. [2010-01-25 15:10]

[Anonymous] ShodanI have been using this little gem for a long time now and it does a great job of converting those batch files to executables. The only thing I wish the author would do is to make it create an INI file to store preference settings. As it is, you must manually set a few preferences each time you run it. [2010-01-31 10:36]

[Anonymous] jxf011Bat To Exe Converter is outstanding! Just what I needed for a little Windows batch file. Now it can run and launch Thunderbird with no unsightly DOS box on the task bar. Very nice app! [2010-03-02 22:18]

[Anonymous] jxf011I'm sorry to say I think this application create a file infected with Trojan.VkHost. It's a Google redirect hijacker. Google:
Google Hijack Virus (Windows 7 x64 & Firefox 3.6)
Norton SafeWeb says www.f2ko.de has 4 trojans:
http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=f2ko.de
I'm very disappointed since this application does exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, it seems that the exes it makes are infected. :(

[Anonymous] jxf011I did some more testing and it seems that making an "invisible" exe from a bat is the trigger. The invisible exe has Trojan.VkHost and random Google search results are redirected. So far, Google is working correctly now that I've stopped running and deleted my invisible exes. (one that I needed and a test one to be sure). Maybe this should be removed from portable freeware ... [2010-03-05 18:19]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
