DavidRoper: even among very technical people, I can't seem to get anyone to use anything but ZIP. The dream of getting people to use one of a number of radically better compression formats has been going on for over a decade now and at this stage just seems like a lost cause.

The changelog posted is for ArcConvert v0.66, plus there now seems to be a 64 bits version linked at the bottom of the Sourceforge page ("Update for 64bit OS").

Note also that although WinRAR gives you a 30 day trial, as the meme goes, it will never end...

Why all the fuss over RAR? The biggest problem is getting RAR to ZIP so it's compatible to more people in the world, not less. 1980 called, they want their compressor back.

While not a dealbreaker, the WinRAR issue continues. The drop down for the target format includes two identical entries:
"D:\Packer\WinRAR.exe not found".

I just downloaded and tested this. For converting to RAR compression types, you have to place WinRAR.EXE in the application directory. Still, a handy utility.

Other archive programs can make RAR files, they are just not allowed to "compress" using the RAR format. They may, however, "store" files using the RAR format. Only WinRAR has the license to use the RAR compression, but others may use the RAR storage. There is a valid distinction here.
