[Anonymous] guest29This is a nice app. Similar to Sysinternals Process Explorer. I recently used this to clean up a badly infected PC that would NOT allow Process Explorer to run... [2009-05-29 11:17]

[Anonymous] SteveSystem Explorer is packed using UPX which is used to hide malware. Why would you shrink the code of such a tiny app unless you were trying to hide something.

Further. System explorer initiates a connection back to www2.skok.com??? Why? No mention of it in the program documentation.

[Anonymous] atomizerin the license it says it is using an internet connection to check for updates only [2009-10-27 14:39]

[User] rhapdogAutomatically connecting to www2.skok.com, even if it is to check for updates, is not a good thing for me. Especially if this cannot be disabled in a configuration. I'll have to pass on this program. I don't like update checks unless i initiate them. [2009-11-17 23:27]

Knives are also sometimes used to kill people -> please stop using knives.

Seriously, is portablefreeware.com suffering from braindead zombies, or are these commenters paid by antivirus companies to spread this kind of bullshit-logic?

Also v.2.0 doesn't try to (automatically) contact home anymore! It's definitely a keeper!

[User] tproliThanks joby_toss for the info. I was about to drop the new version because of those annoyances. I'm still not convinced though, v1.5 (which I use all the time) starts _much_ faster and does what I need nicely. [2009-12-12 11:31]

[User] joby_toss@tproli: I don't think v1.5 supports Windows7, but v2.0 does. Also support for both previous versions 1.4 and 1.5 was dropped. But if it works for you better, there is no need to "fix what's not broken" :-). [2009-12-12 11:43]

[User] tproliThanks, keeping that in mind when upgrading to win7. [2009-12-12 13:54]

[Anonymous] LyxI too prefer 1.5 for now, because i have no plans upgrading to win7, and because with 1.5, i could only show the pages which i need, resulting in a window which just displays what i need, not more. With 2.0, that finegrained control isn't there. [2009-12-24 04:58]

[Anonymous] UserLooks like a nice app, but why is it connecting to www2.skok.cz in Prague in Czech Republic. [2010-02-11 04:34]

[Anonymous] atomizer"Looks like a nice app, but why is it connecting to www2.skok.cz in Prague in Czech Republic"

because it's checking for updates, which can be disabled.

i noticed a pile of functions are not working in the latest build (2.0.9)

[Anonymous] IntercontinentalI agree with rhapdog. Any connection enabled without user's consent is just not acceptable. This does not mean the call is vicious, but that the procedure is. Otherwise, the application is rich, and worthy. [2010-04-21 08:33]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
