[Anonymous] desslokIf you delete shell extension entries, they won't appear again unless you choose otherwise. [2009-04-01 01:33]

[Anonymous] derty2This is a nice tool, I gave it a good wokout, having said that...
It still has some bugs and is not totally stable; It has a good chance of crashing on MASSIVE renaming jobs. It has a good chance of crashing from a chosen preset at the Shell Context Menu (which is a pretty cool feature by the way). The "Preset-Shell Context Menu" is non-active with folder and subdirectory renaming. The GUI is messy, cluttered and not friendly to inexperienced users

If you want a fantastic renaming tool then check this one out:

Renamer - by [den4b] - //www.den4b.com/projects.php

I have tried a lot of these tools and Renamer by den4b is something special; made by a REAL user for REAL users, it has no fluff, it just works and the GUI is easy to use straight out of the box; very intuitive. Make sure you learn some basic Regular Expression syntax to get maximum power out of the tool (read the included manual for a start). Make yourself a custom preset of renaming actions and save it; it has a brilliant built-in set of transliteration actions by the way; for my music collection renaming preset, I have chosen ALL the transliteration actions, but a word of warning; edit the list and remove any actions which are renaming english letters...
If you stick with "Renamer by den4b" for a while and learn how to use it, I guarantee you will fall in love with it.

* NOTABLE FEATURES *
It's portable out of the box; uses an INI file for settings.
It accepts command-line switches.
It accepts Regular Expressions.
Easy to use straight out of the box.
It has an active user forum.
It is freeware (author accepts donations).

* TIP *
If you want to experiment with adding it to your Windows Context Menu, then merge this to your registry:

(EDIT IT FIRST, AND PLAY WITH IT A BIT...)

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
