Just downloaded FotoSketcher and really like the effects I could achieve. I don't know about the "stealth". It has an uninstaller and put it in my Program Files.

Ryan Rix 2008-04-21 21:27

Then you didn't extract it like it says in the "How to Extract" section :-B

Beau 2008-04-22 04:28

Thanks Ryan. Upon your suggestion I read "How to Extract" but it links to Universal Extractor V1.5 which apparently has some poor feedback and it seems so unnecessary to this noob who simply wants to download an stealth executable to a stick and run it.
I did receive a reply from David who wrote the program and he said it is portable and does not write anything in ini files or the registry. I did install it to my hard drive first, ran regedit and deleted the many references to "FotoSketcher". Then I copied the FotoSketcher folder from my Program Files to my USB stick and it worked fine from there. I know, that's a weird way to do it. :-)

Teh installer uses a new version of Inno Setp that the older Universl Extracts cant handle. Just install, copy to where ever then uninstall. Uninstall will get rid of the reg entries that the isntaller creatd. The app itself doesn't write to the reg or any other non portable palce. Also, it has a bad bug in it when running on systems w/o the print spooler service running.

FotoSketcher 2008-04-22 10:44

Hi all,

I'm the author of FotoSketcher and I just wanted to let you know that the bug related to the print spooler has been corrected (it was bad indeed!).
The version available for download should be OK now.

Best regards,

Back in November, 07 I made a post relating to Universal Extractor 1.6 and Innounp 0.20

Officially these versions are both still beta.

I have used these versions since that time and I have not come across a situation where I would have wished to return to the 'official' versions.

So my recommendation is to upgrade!

Needless to say the upgrades enable you to 'Uni-Extract' FotoSketcher.

Thanks for your comments! Just for you, I have made available a standalone version of FotoSketcher.
You can download it here (direct link):
If you like it, you can always buy me a coffee (hint, hint)!!
Best regards.

The new ''Painting 7'' mode in version 1.96 is amazing. Also, FotoSketcher works on Windows 98SE (and presumably ME as well).

Xonox 2011-05-06 11:13

Hi, just tried FotoSketcher. I'm an avid Photoshop user (I teach introduction to Photoshop) and I must tell you that some of the effects are awesome! My favourite is watercolor.
Some of the effects you get are really hard to achieve using Photoshop (you must really know how it works and use the right tools to get it right). So, for people who like to play around with fotos, this is a must.
Thank you!

outskirter 2012-01-29 17:51

This is excellent! I find FotoSketcher intuitive, flexible and very powerful. Two thumbs up, and if I had another thumb I'd give FotoSketcher an even higher mark! ;)

Similar to the poster Xonox who said they are avid Photoshop users, I too am a photoshop user and found this program very capable in doing what it does. I particularly like the "vintage photo" feature. I was thinking the same thing that Xonox said, that unless you know how to work photoshop well, some effects are hard to achieve, but with Fotosketcher its a no brainer. Not sure how often I will use this program, but recommend it to anyone who likes to create effects without having to buy expensive programs or learning how to work those programs. With this, you will find the user interface very user friendly with potential of great success in your effects.

Nh 2012-03-30 18:40

This version (3.20) creates FotoSketcher.ini in User\AppData\Roaming. And it does not help if you create an empty .ini in the program's folder.

Nh 2012-03-30 18:41

Sorry: version 2.30.

I am Baas 2012-03-31 01:54

PortableFotoSketcher V2.30 saves settings (FotoSketcher.ini) in the application folder.

Ruby 2012-04-01 07:12

I get the same thing; 2.30 no longer uses [ FotoSketcher.ini ] in the application folder.

It now creates/uses [ %AppData%\Roaming\FotoSketcher.ini ]

The 'What's new' shows 'ini file bug fix ...', so something's changed

Win7 - x64

lautrepay 2012-04-01 15:29

@Nh & Ruby: The same on Vista 64. Furthermore, the executable almost doubled in size.

mrpink 2012-04-01 15:45

If you have the previous version and overwrite it with the new one, it still sees the .ini in application folder

lautrepay 2012-04-01 16:40

@mrpink: It's not my case. I still have the old .ini in the app folder but the program creates a new one in %AppData%\Roaming.
As I've said, I'm using Vista 64 and an account with admin rights.
The only difference between the old and the new .ini files is that the new one reflects my system language, which is automatically selected by the app.

I am Baas 2012-04-01 16:52

Where do you keep your portable apps? I have a separate drive for all my portable application. I ran FotoSketcher V2.30 as limited user and as admin and the .ini file was created in the application folder.

lautrepay 2012-04-01 17:05

@I am Baas: My portable software is placed in a secondary partition. Running FotoSketcher from an external drive doesn't modify the situation.
Is your system language English?

mrpink 2012-04-01 18:27

I'm running XP as admin, and if i overwrite the previous version as i said, still sees the old .ini file. If i run it from somewhere else it creates an .ini file in %APPDATA%

lautrepay 2012-04-01 19:08

@mrpink: That's really strange, because aparently there are three different situations here:
1) Nh, Ruby and me: The app doesn't recognize the old ini file and creates a new one in %AppData%\Roaming.
2) mrpink: The app recognizes the old ini file only if the old executable is overwritten. Otherwise it creates a new one in %AppData%\Roaming.
3) I am Baas: The ini file is always created in the app folder (if I understood him correctly).

Would you please backup your old ini file, delete it and run the app again, just for curiosity?

mrpink 2012-04-01 19:23

I deleted the .ini and it got recreated in the application folder

lautrepay 2012-04-01 19:59

Your situation is the strangest. If you deleted the old ini file all you had was the new executable alone in the folder. Why then it recreates the configuration file in that folder when (as you've said) running from other locations it creates a new one in %AppData%\Roaming? It's not logical...

webfork 2012-08-24 01:04

Really like the smooth zoom-in and zoom-out function. Some nice modifications for the source image as well as loads of output options. A cool idea wrapped up in a very nice package. Even the donation box is well written.

MnX 2012-09-01 21:01

This little app is literally hours of fun! The renderings and variety of styles are impressive! VERY simple user interface with instant preview results. If you put this on Grandma's computer, she will definitely surprize you with a brand new car for Christmas!

webfork 2013-04-21 15:17

This‭ ‬is an instant gift making program: ‬you‭ ‬can take a photo,‭ ‬do some nifty modifications to it,‭ ‬pick one of the frame outlines,‭ ‬print it,‭ ‬and you‭'ve got‭ ‬a‭ ‬birthday/Christmas‭ ‬covered.
