albertde: Glad to see that Total Text Container finally made it! I have been using off and on for over a year and it is now quite stable. It always creates back-ups when you save so I had to go back and retrieve old versions of my files when that happens. One handy feature - not appropriate for portable use - is the ability to create an archive node that references files scattered all over a hard disk (for me, the "My Documents" folder).
One key point is to save the node after you finish with it and don't forget to save the entire tree file as well. If you use the archive node type, save the individual file in the archive, then the node itself and then the entire tree file. [2008-03-14 06:18]
Ashghost: Holy overachiever, Batman! This little freeform database program does everything! It even includes a vector graphics editor and a code editor with syntax highlighting and code folding. You can physically store any file type within the database - double-clicking on it copies it to your temp directory and opens it in the default program, then saves it back to the database and deletes the temp file. BJK: This is perfect application - one of most power which I know.
A few additional things I need
- Unicode text support
- references between internal documents
- hyperlinks (URL under text)
With great respect BJK [2008-03-15 10:20]
_________Awesome_________: Damn good!!!
text,doc/rtf,spread sheets, syntax, xml, directory cataloging, gfx mapping holycow of a free pocket pim!!
highly useful!!
i have great hope in this program!
only regard is it needs a bit more work here and there
looking forward to a future version
Suggestion :
!need some skinning (less/thinner border)
!custom icons or newer icons (kinda out-dated)
!where's password for database?
!many errors (add new tab and switch to empty tab, case errors)
!sometime crash (add .bmp picture in some condition case progy to crash)
!others glitch, spacing, area positions...
looking forward to see improvement! [2008-03-16 09:17]
Ben: Beware...at this version, V0.A047, this app sometimes has a problem saving...you may lose your data... [2008-03-20 14:40]
Icon: What is that icon? It looks like a futuristic super hero with long claws instead of hands. [2008-03-24 02:52]
Hypnos: Icon, this is "Diablo II: Lord of destruction" game's Assassin character on this icon. [2008-03-24 05:32]
KG: The developer really needs to improve upon one major issue with the software. Whenever you add a child / item, menu doesnt get refreshed automatically and you need to move out of that window and then enter again to see correct menu. Further when you edit any (word excel etc) files after opening thru the software the version doesnt get refreshed in the list and if you reopen it you lose all your changes (else you need to change the window and go back to window and then open it to preserve your changes). It would have been better that all the changes could have been directly be made on original file rather than extracting it.
However, apart from this software is good.....a little improvement on looks shall also make a lot of difference. [2008-07-10 01:14]
Ben: I really like this app...I have a number of uses for it...but the inconsistency in saving is really getting to me...I don't know how I keep losing my changes. It seems that, when you close the app, it asks you if you want to save changes...and I always answer "yes"...but I've lost some of my changes anyway. I would suggest you save frequently with every method possible while using this application. [2008-07-12 09:54]
max: The latest version of Total Text Container writes a few entries to the windows register.
Anyway this program is a really great idea which makes it useful as an all-in-one database that could be used to store various types of data.A similar program to this is KeyNotes; but Total Text Container has a few useful things like importing images and drawing diagrams which Keynotes does not have.
It would have been nice if there were an option to import more image formats other than Bitmap images. An option to import and export text to various formats such as TXT,HTML and RTF would have been a great help.
It also seems that the program takes a bit longer to load and also takes a little while to close down. [2009-04-07 21:16]
Bozzo: This program is not working anymore? it wont save any settings, the sf project cant be acessed, dint found any email to contact developer... [2009-04-23 17:01]
Ted Taylor: Full of bugs and errors, no obvious install path, division by zero errors, multiple instances because it won't close down. Why are you listing this? [2009-05-29 00:20]
JM: A lot of bugs !!
I can't use it. [2009-05-29 02:44]
dimasty: mirror, please!!! [2009-05-29 06:11]
Billy Bob: The version liked above is hosed and has been replaced by a bug fixed version - pick it up at http://sites.google.com/site/totaltextcontainer/Home/downloads
This version actually does work
* Changes to the CodePro Frame
# CodePro load Bug Fixed.
* Changed the TLoopStart and TLoopEnd function to itarate through all lines inbetween. no need for one long liner's.
+ Added "TLoopListTableStart~ParenNameOrParentID~" Command
* Changed the "Text Files.hgl" so that the Hyphen (') doesn't contain a range.
* Grepsearch finds and "Locates" data from the frame now. Frames still todo ..."Folder", "Catalog" and "Code Producer".
* Most frames have a "Search" and "Search Next" feature now. Frames still todo ..."Folder", "Catalog" and "Code Producer". [2009-05-29 17:04]
Natanael L: This app looks like something I'm going to love!
I've found a few different PIM apps now that seems good, and right now I want to start up a project to create a new free open source PIM app with all the best features of them all! [2009-06-02 05:11]
mjwiech: This app is unusable.
Plenty of various error messages. Complains that a file already exists while it does not. Complains on zero division. Loops errors, difficult to break out of it. [2009-06-04 12:09]
cat woman: holy cow batman this thing is loaded! [2009-07-18 23:36]
Loreto: I'm agree with mjwiech.
The application (V0.80) in unusable. Complains that a file already exists while it does not. Complains on zero division. Loops errors. To break the error a kill of process must be done. [2009-08-18 15:38]
kaj: Latest version .81 does not run reliably. [2009-10-20 02:49]
mario: this is interesting.
some people claim it's the greatest thing evah.
and others say it doesn't even run.
I've tried it myself and a couple of times it wouldn't start up - another time it hung, and I haven't actually figured out how to work it yet.
intuitive it's not. [2009-11-05 21:56]
infestedtassadar-x17: what kind of encryption does this use? searched the site but couldn't seem to find anything [2010-02-20 23:00]
akri: Sounds good, but v0.a082 hangs. Useless! :-( [2010-02-20 23:33]
elations: It hung for me too. Then I checked its compatibility/system requirements. Officially, it is only compatible with Win 2000/XP/2003 but, unfortunately, I'm stuck with Vista. Subsequentially, I set it to run as admin and with compatibility set to XP/SP2. This time, it started okay. Unfortunately, it still froze after a while :( [2010-07-17 02:14]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
