Xpadder assigns keystrokes to your gamepad, giving you the ability to use your gamepad with any application you want (including older games with poor or no gamepad support such as DOS games). It also supports multiple gamepads, so playing multiplayer games with individual gamepads is a breeze. Combine this program's powerful features with its intuitive design and the result is an application that no one owning a gamepad should be without.

Note: the program has gone payware. Linking to the last freeware version (thanks Napiophelios).

Category:
Runs on:Win98 / WinME / Win2K / WinXP / Vista
Writes settings to: Application folder, though some editing of the .ini file is necessary for complete portability.
Path portability: Requires manual entry of relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)
License: Free for personal use
How to extract:
  1. Download the zip package and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Launch XPadder.exe
  3. Close the application
  4. Open a text editor and edit the Xpadder.ini file located in the application folder
  5. Replace all paths with relative equivalents

Note that this will also be necessary if new controllers are added, as recent controllers and multiple controllers will be saved with absolute paths. Hopefully in a future version relative paths can be an optional default.

not a freeware any longer... another one of those programmers who became greedy once the app was noticed...

Webfork: You can find the Saitek p220 pad just about anywhere that sells electronics for about 10 bucks new. If you really wanted to get some serious style you could shell out some more money for Saitek's ProGamer Command Pad (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826127504.

Have no way of testing it but I'm interested in picking up a used or supercheap controller just so I can use the "control video/music players using media or shortcut keys" feature. That would be fantastic.
