WipeDisk is a tool for secure wiping of hard disks (both logical and physical), USB memory sticks and floppy disks to prevent file recovery. By default, the program will wipe a disk and all it's content, but the program includes a "Free Space" wipe, which includes deleted but recoverable files.
Although the "Low 1x" setting should be sufficient for most security needs, it supports 14 wiping methods for very high security, including US Navy, Airforce, DoD and NATO standards. Higher settings are slower.
The developer also makes a program for individual files WipeFile.

Can it be run from a bootable USB Flash Drive
can you specify the wipe string...you know just in case some one uses a low level disk editor to read the disk...just a little message for those folks?
Great tool. Used it to wipe a usb drive that had a iso image of chromeOS in another partition and worked like a charm.
I'm sure WipeDisk is a fine program but "fancy" multi-pass erasing tools are not necessary. Data can not be recovered from a single over write so just do 1 pass of Pseudorandom Data using Portable Eraser. Check these great articles:

Can it wipe the drive C:\ if I have started windows from C:\ and I run your tool from there?
Yes it does, Im wiping a SATA 60gb Laptop Drive as i speak... check your sata drivers maybe?

Wow.. I have been trying to reinstall XP and I couldn't delete the partition. getting errors that set up files were in the partition i wanted to delete.. Finally, after a lot of researching I stumbled across this free software.. Thanks for helping me see the way... WIPE DISK worked like a charm.. installing XP Pro as I type...
