[Anonymous] MarkDoes this app completely wipe HD files or just unused space on HD? [2007-09-20 17:11]

[Anonymous] francisIt wipes the complete medium! For "free-space-only" use Eraser 5.84 (freeware but not portable) [2007-09-23 01:52]

[Anonymous] francis....Eraser 5.83r2: freeware AND portable :-) [2007-09-23 01:55]

[Anonymous] rdo not confuse this with WipeFile, the author's other app for securely wiping files:

[Anonymous] AlexCan I use this tool to erase/format my HardDrive as if it was a boot disk? Does it load after the BIOS screen so I can delete everything without loading Windows? [2008-06-06 13:48]

[Anonymous] WebforkMuch prefer Cybershredder (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=202) for simplicity and how it handles overwriting filenames.

Alex: no it doesn't. The closest thing to what you describe is at dban.sourceforge.net.

[Anonymous] callenDoes not work on SATA drive [2009-02-03 04:08]

[Anonymous] JoeYes it does, Im wiping a SATA 60gb Laptop Drive as i speak... check your sata drivers maybe? [2009-03-10 01:50]

[Anonymous] donCan it wipe the drive C:\ if I have started windows from C:\ and I run your tool from there? [2009-10-14 08:36]

[Anonymous] jxf011I'm sure WipeDisk is a fine program but "fancy" multi-pass erasing tools are not necessary. Data can not be recovered from a single over write so just do 1 pass of Pseudorandom Data using Portable Eraser. Check these great articles:

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
