Synopsis: Taskix lets you reorder buttons on the taskbar using drag-and-drop. Note that if "Group similar taskbar buttons" is set, you will be able to move a button inside the group or move the group as a whole, but not to move a button out of its group. If you open many windows so buttons end up stacked up on a single taskbar button, Taskix will also work inside the stacked button list.

[Anonymous] rokay so i've tried taskbar shuffle and taskbar++.

taskbar shuffle may have slightly more features such as closing taskbar items on middle click and arranging your system tray icons, but...

taskix simply does as it states... you can drag-and-drop your taskbar items to the place you want to in the taskbar

it doesn't do anything else... no fancy animations while dragging and dropping... nothing!

which is good! because this means it's really low on resources. recommended!

[Anonymous] RichTaskix takes 1.5MB of RAM vs Taskbar Shuffle's 7.5MB of RAM.

We have a new king! Here's to optimized small apps!

[Anonymous] DataTaskix 1.5 adds taskbar button middle click close and mouse cursor change when dragging. Maybe 1.6 adds tray shuffling? Wishful thinking but still hopeful. [2008-04-26 12:04]

[Anonymous] MidasGood app that does what it is supposed to without hogging resources. Recommended! [2008-05-05 06:26]

[Anonymous] RolandThis is an ideal app! 5 stars out of 5!

Someone should suggest that they post the update here.

[Anonymous] neuonly run for win xp, 2003 server and vista. Not for win 2000. Not my time. [2008-06-02 02:56]

[Anonymous] SimonOn my system right now, seven apps opened with corresponding taskbar buttons, Taskbar Shuffle's eating around 432KB RAM, it can still hold its own againt the competition. [2008-06-04 16:21]

[Anonymous] Paul MooreTaskix seems to occasionally get windows confused for me. I've had a few windows which simply won't come to the top when I click on them - they stay behind the others. It's not necessarily taskix at fault (I have VirtuaWin running as well), but switching it off fixed the problem. [2008-08-05 07:52]

[Anonymous] KalebUh... there are not any zip files to download.
So, how do I make it portable?
 [2009-08-31 21:38]

[User] freakazoidkaleb, the new version of Taskix uses the MSI install method.

v1.5 still exists on the Taskix server:

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
