[Anonymous] FprivadoWebsite and download links dead [2009-01-03 10:09]

[Anonymous] JonThe website is currently running.

I really like this app. Although it's quite a bit larger than Hash (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1082), it has a cleaner interface, supports more formats, and also has the ability to compare the hash that's produced with the clipboard.

It is a pity that it doesn't have the option to create multiple hashes (ie MD5, SHA1, etc) at the same time. The way of getting a different variety of hash from the same file is a bit clunky as well, but it still works.

[Anonymous] sha1SHA1 hashes for large files (approx. > 1GB) seem to be wrong.
At least the result does not agree with sha1deep, Fsum, HashMyFiles (NirSoft) and Hash (Robin Keir).

[Anonymous] PJNow what we need is a way to generate hashes for all files
in directories

[User] webforkMy new favorite hash program. Used this today to compare two different lists of similarly-named PDF files? The log file system and easy options were a breeze to use and compare a short list of files.

Though I still wish it had options for checking files in folders and subfolders, as well as automatic verification for example in checking the contents of CD for errors / scratches, this is clearly at the top in terms of hash checking here on the site.

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
