New Features for 3.23
=====================
[3022827] Implement 'stealth' mode where, as long as the user specifies both
the use of the System Tray and a valid Hot Key, then the System Tray
icon and the button on the Taskbar can be hidden.
[3017535] Allow user to edit the generated passwords (Manage->Generate Password)
before copying to the clipboard.
[3011546] "autotype" can now be added to the List View via the Column
Picker (right click on column labels).
Changes to Existing Features in 3.23
====================================
[3026944] Confirm on Delete option has been re-instated.
Bugs fixed in 3.23
==================
[3029576] Ensure user specified backup directory ends with a slash.
[3028926] Entries modified via Synchronize are now displayed correctly if the
user checks the preference "Highlight changed entries" via Options->Display.
[3016803] No longer crashes when trying to view a base entry with
similarly named aliases.
[3013199] PasswordSafe no longer hangs when trying to read preferences
stored in registry by older versions.
[3011972] By adding more checking when creating the menus for Recent Entries
off the System Tray menu, prevent crashing when clicking on the icon.
[3010926] Can now set a non-recurring expiry date using the calendar during
Add/Edit.
[3010541, 3013981, 3011972] Fixed crash when locked and the user
right-clicks the System Tray icon.
[3009130] Changes to an entry's password policy are now saved upon OK or Apply.
[3008203] The password expiration date is now automatically updated when
a "recurring" password expiration is set and the password is changed.
[3006125] Selected entry/group before database is locked or minimized,
including when Windows goes into Standby/Hibernate is now re-selected when
the database is later displayed.
[3006069] Autotype now works correctly when the user specifies that
PasswordSafe should minimize after Autotype and has also set that the
database should be locked on minimize.
[2957038] Cursor no longer disappears when PasswordSafe thinks that the
user is dragging an entry but then doesn't.
[] The Save Toolbar button and the Save menu item are now correctly
enabled if the user changes preferences saved in the database.

Tet: really good prog.. cause of the simplicity
been using it for years [2007-04-06 01:26]
Donald: With this program you only have to remember one password. That is the password to access Password Safe. You can not beat it. [2007-05-06 15:51]
pat: Similarity to Password Gorilla explained.
Based on the same software, which was originally developed by Counterpane Labs,Password Gorilla is an independent alternative to Password Safe. They look the same, but while Password Safe is an excellent piece of free software, it is only available for the Microsoft Windows platform. Password Gorilla is compatible with most major operating systems, including Apple Macintosh OS X and diverse flavors of Unix.
Use Password Safe if You work only on Windows PC's or choose Password Gorilla if you want to run the same program to run on other OS as well. [2007-05-22 06:13]
hoboguy: While it is true that this is a windows only program I don't have any problems running it under linux with wine installed. Also there is a linux alternative that uses the same database as this one, called MyPasswordSafe. They both are pretty much the same program, they act just a tad different but nothing to noticable. Hope this helps. [2007-05-30 23:12]
Mike: Use caution!
Um, don't follow the example use-case:
"You can copy a password into the clipboard and paste it directly into your application...."
If you copy your password to the clipboard, it's immediately available to all programs running on your system. Writing a trojan to monitor clipboard content and stash it away for later retrieval is a trivial exercise...
I'd use the AutoType feature, which should be no less secure than typing it by hand. Your password can still be picked up by keyboard loggers, but the only way to avoid that is to scan your Windows system regularly for known trojans, or better yet, only install software that you can verify (or have verified for you), such as from trusted vendors and open source code. Midas: On account of simplicity, open source and safety, I much prefer Keepass: http://portablefreeware.com/?id=194 [2008-02-29 03:33]
SomeGuy: Heres something bad about password managers, if an advanced password cracker cracked your master password, it would know all of your other passwords, then all of your accounts would be hacked. [2008-08-06 09:51]
@SomeGuy: But isn't that a better alternative than a user who uses sticky notes? Secure password programs are a much better alternative. [2009-02-24 07:17]
James Curran: @Mike: Clipboard vs. AutoType - both cracks involve a trojan running on you local machine (under your security access). If you have a trojan on your system, your screwed -- period. Also, just putting something on your clipboard doesn't give your trojan clipboard logger any info about what object that text is the password for (or even that it is a password).
@SomeGuy - The hacker would need both a very sophisticate password cracker -and- physical access to your entire password file. The random guy who finds your lost thumbdrive is unlikely to have the expertise (He's unlikely even to realize that the innoculous file on the thumb drive holds your passwords) [2009-12-09 15:13]
Silver: @SomeGuy
It's very very hard to crack the password anyway as long as it's random and long. My own password is all random and is 20 characters long so I'm sure at least it will take a very very very long time before they can crack it. However, if quantum computer comes along...... we would all be screwed. [2010-05-24 02:50]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
