A43 File Management Utility v3.90

webfork on 22 Dec 2015

A43 is a file manager with integrated text editor, integrated zip/unzip functions, file search, quick launch area and dual-pane view. Includes favorite area for often-used folders.

System Requirements: Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch A43.exe.
What's new?
  • Fixed painting bug with the Path Bar.
  • Added ability to send an ISO file to Windows Disk Image Burner. Don't know why, unless it is because I never remember it is in the context menu. Sadly, need Windows 7 and up to use. Under File menu.
  • Added ability to create an ISO image from a data CD. Under File menu. Works on XP and up. Does not create ISO images of audio cd.
  • Fixed bug in Drive toolbar refreshing incorrectly.
  • Added the ability to open Registry Editor to a qualified key. This was something I needed and if others find useful we will try to enhance it. Under Tools menu. Just type in or paste a key and hopefully regedit will open to the key. Example: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft
  • Removed the status bar at the bottom. Hints now shown in the title bar. Panel in file view will open on zip operations.
  • Fixed the No Row Color for the Browse for Folder dialog not working.
  • Change to language.ini.

The greatest portable tool I've ever used. I regret a lot that I am not a coder to help develope it - If anyone can - please do not hesitate...
small, simple, powerfull... it has all you ever needed from file manager...

Great app except it's slow and freezes quite often for me. I'm looking forward to the next version of CubicExplorer a lot more. :)

Is this app really portable? Because I think there is no way to use relative paths in the shortcuts for the quick launch. And if you plug your usb-stick into another computer and it is assigned another drive letter your quick launch
does not work anymore, right?

Simon: If you're using PStart to launch A43, just set the "Start in" parameter to a single backslash (). When you launch PStart, it'll open showing the root of your USB drive, no matter what drive letter it's gotten assigned.

Great to see that this project is still being developed!

A43 is finally what i have been waiting for. I can use it on any PC I go to when helping friends...and I don't have to learn whatever file manager they have on their machines. Simple, Small, portable and a genius app. Thanks.

Relative shortcuts on portable media is not only possible, it's easy! Check out MyDrive at www.1way.ws to read how to do it and get the free program.

A43 needs redesign on their memory management. When I copy or move large file across network, it will stop transfer data when A43's menu is pulled down. Even plain Window Explorer knows how to separate these two tasks. Very dangerous on file transfer since file might get corrupt when menu is in focus. This is on 2 gig RAM with E6600 Core 2 Duo.

ini file is in the root of the distribution.
as for the viewing pane: View > Splitter

I have been so waiting for an update on this.

Has some ways to go - especially with speed.

Please keep developing it.

This program is very good. Thanks for developing it.

What I like best about it is it's File/Folder Search function. Searching is simple enough to be non-fussy, yet advanced enough to search system files/folders and deal with hidden files. SearchMyFiles might be slightly more advanced, but it's good to use each one under different circumstances.

I had some trouble in Vista when I assigned it's Link's folder to be the same as the Windows QuickLauch folder, posssibly using symbolic links, but maybe that was too experimental of me; I stopped using Vista anyhow.

A43.exe works with XP SP3. I remapped my multimedia QWERTY keyboard to launch A43.exe instead of the default explorer search function.

For a time I experimented with A43.exe as a Windows Explorer Shell replacement. It does work as such, so for a no-frills, low-resource-consumption interface it's fine. It's a good example of just how minimal an interface can be without being difficult or uncomfortable to use.

Thanks to the author for using .ini files instead of the dreaded Registry.

Unfortunately, it seems that new 3.0 version does not work on work on Windows 2000. After launch the following error message is displaying: "A43.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows."
