I tested a lot of files/folders searchers; this one is the only portable, free, non-indexing, search tool I know which both scans text/binary files and shows results with a given number of lines "before" and "after" the searched term, to view its context. I strongly suggest it.

@robzuc: Swiss File Knife fulfills your requirements as well.

@SYSTEM: Thank you for this suggestion; I'd add that LookDisk has a GUI; on the other hand, Swiss File Knife is a command line tool.
V4.7
I'm seeing a portability issues with version 5.3
On my XP system I find version 5.3 writes to %userdata%
I have just now duplicated my tests on versions 4.7 and 5.0 and they do not.
Just a heads up - will look further when time permits
V5.3
@NickR
Open ldw.ini, uncomment this line "datapath=" and enter the path. I am not sure if it accept relative path though but I will test and update the entry later. No time right now, cheers.
V5.3
The author has promptly corrected it so the download is now OK -- Thanks Vincenzo
@I am Baas - If you don't want to download again, your workaround was spot on :)
"Thanks for letting me know.
To correct this you can download the portable version again
or in ldw.ini change the line ;datapath=xxxx to datapath=. (remove semi-colon)."
V5.3
Good basic, easy-to-use file search program. Nowhere near as detailed and powerful as other search tools but also far less intimidating to average users.
