Synopsis: FileZilla is a fast and reliable FTP and SFTP client. It includes a site manager and supports uploads/downloads queue, remote file search, drag-and-drop, keepalive, timeout detection, remote file search, SOCKS 4/5 and HTTP 1.1 proxy, etc.

Alternately, Filezilla Portable is a package optimized for external flash memory.

For Windows 2000 and earlier, an old, unsupported version (2.2.22) is available.

How to extract:

Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice.
Create a subfolder called settings.
Copy docs\fzdefaults.xml.example to the main folder, and rename as fzdefaults.xml.
Edit fzdefaults.xml and change:

to:

<Setting name="Config Location">settings</Setting>

Launch FileZilla.exe.

Synopsis: WinSCP is a secure file transfer client using SSH, although legacy SCP protocol is also supported. It features interfaces similar to Windows Explorer and Norton Commander and has a built-in directory synchronization tool to synchronizes changes between local and remote directories.

An alternative to the official version is the Portable WinSCP from PortableApps.

Synopsis: Free Download Manager (FDM) is a feature-rich tool set built atop a file download manager and accelerator. It supports the BitTorrent protocol, has built-in file sharing tools, Flash video download from YouTube, Google Video etc. It has remote control via the Internet (via fdmwi.exe), site explorer, offline website downloader, program scheduler, etc. A media file preview prevents downloading mislabeled music or video and a zip file peview tool saves bandwidth by only downloading needed components.

This program is useful for poor internet connections that require frequent download restarts and bandwidth is at a premium, but also useful for regular connections downloading large files.

Writes settings to: Application folder. It writes some values to the registry, but these are not related to any user settings.

How to extract:

Download the installer and install to the default folder.
Run the program and select File, Create Portable Version to copy to a folder of your choice.
Uninstall the program.
Delete unins000.exe and unins000.dat. Launch fdm.exe.

Synopsis: Save2FTP is designed for an automatic online backup of your important data to remote FTP servers. It will help you organize your backups and schedule automatic backups. It supports inclusion and exclusion of files by wildcard mask as well as by exact file name, and keeps detailed logs of all backup operations. It includes a scheduler for unattended auto-backup and scheduling of any specific time or date, day of the week or month. It also allows you to create incremental backups so you only need to backup files that have changed.

Note: The freeware version of Save2FTP no longer appears to be available. I have made available for direct download the most recent version. Thanks to MarcosJC for sending me V2.1. If you have anything newer, please email me directly.
